As in-house counsel to a city grappling with cutting-edge land and street use issues, we advise policymakers, review and draft legislation, counsel departmental staff, and defend City laws and decisions in litigation. We work with elected officials, land use planners, and those who enhance affordable housing, preserve historic resources, and manage our streets, parks, and utilities. Job Responsibilities: Advise City policymakers and administrators on land and street use issues, and review and draft legislation. Counsel City officials and staff on implementing and navigating City, state, and federal law related to land and street use. Defend City laws and decisions in quasi-judicial tribunals and in state and federal courts. Qualifications: This position requires effective written advocacy skills and experience with oral advocacy in motions or appeals. A successful candidate may also have: •a working knowledge of Washington land use case law and statutes; •experience advising public officials; •comfort and facility with discovery and examining and cross-examining witnesses; or •experience advocating before administrative tribunals. This position requires active membership in good standing in the Washington State Bar Association within six months of the job offer.
